Rallies and arrests in West Papua coincide with establishment of 'International lawyers for West Papua'

Reports from West Papua today indicate that 10,000 people are staging a rally in Nabire, while another rally planned for Wamena is occurring in the grounds of the Efata Church after a joint Police and Military security operation to block that rally.

Indonesia suspected of sponsoring fake Papua rebel group

The West Papua National Coalition for Liberation says the Indonesian military may be sponsoring militia groups to masquerade as the Free West Papua Movement, or OPM, in ongoing fighting in Puncak Jaya regency. Reports from Indonesia's Papua region that more than 30 soldiers have been killed in skirmishes with separatists in the regency in the last month, have attributed the deaths to OPM fighters.

Law movement launched to help West Papua

The International Lawyers for West Papua movement was on Friday launched at Cara Lodge here in Georgetown with calls for more countries to give support to the indigenous peoples, who has been victims of human rights and other abuses.
