Because of a last-minute surge in ticket sales, popular events at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games are now sold out. On Wednesday organizers decided to re-sell tickets for previously sold-out events like tennis and football if there are no-shows, reports Channel News Asia.

Following Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan's announcement Wednesday, this also includes tickets at sold-out events if seats have not been filled by the time the match begins.

Michael Palmer, a member of the organizing committee said, "it's not an assigned seating so you don't have a particular reserved seat - you have a right to a seat in the venue. So as long as the organizer provides a seat in the venue, they've fulfilled their legal obligation".

According to Channel News Asia, the number of tickets released for sold-out events will depend on seating capacity and is left to the assessment of the venue manager.

Meanwhile the Associated Press reports that less than seven weeks before the New Delhi Commonwealth Games, venues are still under construction, top officials have been forced out in scandal, costs have soared and many are questioning the wisdom of spending so much money on an event in a nation riddled with social ills.

Also many top athletes have reportedly pulled out of the event, and the Queen of England has said she won't be attending the Games, which brings together 71 Commonwealth countries.
