Singapore Democrats

Following the protest outside Parliament House on 15 Mar 08, the Singapore Democrats is ready to take the Tak Boleh Tahan! campaign to HDB housing estates to win the support of the people.

Starting with Toa Payoh on May Day, the SDP will spread the message of the PAP's continued exploitation of workers in Singapore.

We will campaign against the bloated Minister's salaries and the shrinking pay packets of Singaporeans, a sign of the income disparity in the country.

HDB residents will also be told of the use of foreign talent by the Government to suppress wages in order to increase profits for its GLCs, profits which are then amassed and used for secretive and questionable investments overseas.

People will be reminded that much of the rising cost of living is due to PAP policies such as the raising of GST and other price hikes of Goverment services and goods. The profiteering of the HDB is one case in point.

While it is true that increases in some of the items are due to global phenomena, the PAP Government has unnecessarily added to the people's misery and hardship through its exploitative policies.

In must be pointed out that Singapore's economy is one of the most centrally-planned in the world. As such, the Government must not be allowed to hoodwink the people by fobbing off price increases on global phenomena.

The people must come together and tell the PAP in one loud and unmistakable voice: "Tak Boleh Tahan!"

Come 1 May 08 (next Thursday), the Singapore Democrats will be at Toa Payoh Central to encourage citizens to support the campaign. Join us then, won't you?

The details of the event will be announced on this website in the next few days.

  • Quitter - Good luck and May your campaign be successful
As a quitter from Singapore, I am so proud of my adopted country, Australia, that when we organise a peaceful protest, we received police protection who will control traffic and guide us safely during our march.

Even in HK, the civil maturity of the people are noted.

Shame on the Singapore thugs - I mean Police.
First World Singapore? - you must be joking. Imtimidated citizens do not go out and create a future.

SDP has my complete and total support.

Protest wherever you like, please do not bring kids into the protest. What a disgrace! I will bet on a poor turnout. Onlookers more than protestors. It only serves to show the people are not as badly affected or exploited as depicted by SDP aka CSJ.

i wont bother asking if u guys got licence cos i anybody will know the answer lol. hope to see u come to punggol one day
  • Aidil Omar - Do not bring kids to protests?
If what you say is true, why then are they teaching social studies and crappy subjects to indoctrinate kids in their most impressionable years?

Why then are kids reciting the pledge everyday in school, affirming and advocating democracy, justice and equality but in reality these values cannot be exercised?

Shouldn't we stop children reciting the pledge as much as we'd stop them from exercising their rights as citizens?

Please do not be moronic. B)

SDP must make its presence felt in every housing estate to bring the Tak Boleh Tahan message across to the public.SDP should visit every kopitiam and hawker ctr. to mingle with the crowd and gather feedback and make a survey to see how many % of the citizens support pap at this critical time
  • lesspricehikepls
SDP needs re-image itself to appeal to the dialect speaking heartlands. While I support the SDP cause, I think at this point they're seen to be too 'jiak kentang' by many heartlanders.
  • tunkudon - u r than the moron
to the nick lesscomplainpls, if u are pro PAP stay out of here . we dun welcome you ass
  • mike Chan - Pak si buay chow
I recollect former PM GCT using this hokkien phrase on someone or something at one of his Nat Day Rally speeches years ago. Well, this phrase "Pak si buay chow"(beat me to near death also won't scare us to scamper and hide) is now applicable to our braveheart CSJ and all his equally courageous members and supporters. This time it's different and for real, PAP oligarchs...the SDP will not cow and disappear despite the persecutions of your keystone cops on them time and again.
What does not kill me will make me stronger!
  • Raphael - To tunkudon
    Tunkudon,

I think we should keep it civil. The person you are replying to surely has the right to his own opinion and by calling him names surely is not the right way to go if you are an SDP supporter.

If you noticed, the SDP doesn't censor comments that are against it and the goodfolks in SDP chooses to openly allow such comments.

I guess it shows the true spirit of democracy the SDP so advocates and it respects the freedom of speech.

IMHO, name calling and the usage of derogatory terms only diminishes the respectability of this website. I'm sure none of us would like that.

I dun recite our pledge anymore...as i grow up...I realised that it's all crap. Wait till the day when the contents are fully satisfied. Then maybe I'll recite it with gusto once again...provided I'm still singaporean or I'm still alive...whichever comes first.
In the mean time, Keep it up SDP.
Thou i couldn't care less about whatever is happening. I'm been brought up to be screwed in the arse and say thank you like the majority of singaporeans.
ps. I'm not the 66.6%...as hell man...no chance to vote. Walkover and over and over.
  • lesscomplainpls
Why dun all of you guys here join in the protest? Dun talk big and stand by the sidelines. Stand up and be counted.
Besides the usual people, let's see how many other people will bothered to join in. Any bets? Can give you odds some more. :D All roar no teeth. Sad state in SDP.
  • complainer

lesscockupspls intead of telling people off.. Plz tell us abt urself?? What abt Ur life in singapore that ur are proud off??

The matter of fact that there are people complaining.. mean there are people unhappy with whats happening.. A good govt definetly would listen am i rite.
  • Puzzled
They keep protesting. Just wondering if 1 day they are really in power. Will CSJ just take a 2k salary instead of 200k???
  • G Chen
I m sorry lesscomplainpls, but I feel that you should really think before you submit a comment because it only reflects your level of intelligence or maturity. Your equation that "poor turnout" = "people are not as badly affected or exploited", is nothing more than simplistic or intellectually dishonest.Your follow-up reply to those who are critical towards you are even more juvenile. If you represent a supporter of the PAP, you are actually doing them a disservice.
  • zafri roseli - GO FOR IT
