Heavy and intense rain fell over Singapore early Saturday morning, causing flash floods in various locations, mainly in the eastern and central parts of Singapore, reported China's Xinhua news agency.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) evacuated some 60 people in about 20 different locations islandwide, SCDF was quoted by Channel NewsAsia as saying.

Singapore national water agency, PUB, says the flood waters reached up to 300mm for some areas and generally subsided within 30 minutes, according to the local media.

The rainfall was heaviest between 4:40 a.m. and 6:40 a.m. Within the two-hour period, 178.4 millimeters of rain were recorded in the central areas of Singapore while 179.6mm of rain were recorded in the eastern area.

This is more than the average total monthly rainfall of 158.3mm for July.

According to Singapore's Meteorological Services, the heavy showers in the morning was caused by unstable weather conditions in the region which led to winds converging over Singapore, bringing heavy rain clouds to Singapore and the surrounding areas.

The unstable weather conditions in the region are partly attributed to Typhoon "Conson" making landfall over Hainan Island during the night.

For the next few days, showers with thunder can be expected between the late morning and early afternoon.
