The address of Singapore Democratic Party's Secretary-General, Dr Chee Soon Juan, given at the SDP's 30th year anniversary dinner at Concorde Hotel on 27 Feb 2010.
Yes I agree, Dr Chee has the quality of a leader. That's why lky is so afraid. I am looking forward to that day :)

None of the entire PAP Team can compete with just one CSJ. The day will come for a new PM and yes I believe that Dr Chee will be a very qualified and competent candidate.
3 cheers SDP & Dr Chee. Change WE MUST.

Never since the days of Lim Chin Siong, have we seen a man that has all the ingredients: the heart, the brain and the mouth. I guess this makes the old man very unhappy, and he is now thinking of a strategy to "fix" SDP.

Not since Obama's Inaugural speech have I heard any speech that can even remotely match this. And even before that, I really cannot remember any speech made by anyone that could have moved me as much as this one by Dr Chee has.
And I consider myself to be pretty jaded when it comes to these types of things: "been there, done that" is how I tend to view most things.
I'm pretty sure that all the international guests who were present at this most momentous of celebrations will agree that Dr Chee's speech belongs in the category that can only be described in two simple words: World Class - a quality that the PAP deludes itself and Singaporeans into believing they have but have eluded them thus far.
Congratulations, SDP - yes, all of you from the organizers of this event, the YD whom Alex Au has correctly paid tribute to as a hardworking lot, and everyone else who had even the slightest to do with this. (Oh, BTW, the latest uniform is the best. At least for this current time.)
But here comes the dampener: I actually viewed this video with so much sadness, or more accurately, with mixed emotions.
Am I supposed to be happy about this? Or sad?
Happy that we are looking at the future Government of Singapore?
Or sad that this same future government was actually meant to have been in place long ago?
An SDP government is exactly the government that Singapore is so desperately in need of RIGHT NOW. Yet, two of its most prominent and capable members - Dr Chee and Ms Chee - are barred from contesting elections, win office, and help Singapore in the much needed large scale problem-solving exercise called "politics" for the nation.
And that's precisely because the PAP are a collection of individuals who have never been about problem-solving, much less for the nation; they have only ever been about inducting the largest number of self-serving individuals into their fold who are more greatly attracted to the prospect of enhancing their bank accounts.
I am left to feel so resigned to the fact that the SDP government that we need right now is realistically not going to materialize, under the present conditions, until at best the third election from now.
But BELIEVE anyway?
I certainly do.

I've posted this video in 3in1kopitiam, and despite the fact that this has been overnight, the number of views has shot up by roughly 25%.
I'm of course not saying that this is entirely due to the readers in 3in1kopitiam, but they do have higher traffic there.
I am posting post the first, and thus far the only comment, posted there in response to this by poster [PAPBull]:
Stirring content, forceful delivery, oozing confidence, unafraid but at the same time humble, standing tall despite all the punishment PAP has heaped his way........that's the kind of leader Singapore desperately needs right now, today, right away.
Our nation is faltering through bad governance and we need a new beginning like never before. As always in their darkest hour, throughout history, countries have somehow produced the leaders they needed to drag themselves away from the edge. 'Cometh the hour, cometh the man', as the old saying goes. Churchill, Adenaur, Roosevelt, Deng.......all stepped up to serve and I believe Dr. Chee will answer the call too.
Compare him with any other S'pore politician, especially the PM, and I think it's simply no contest. It is no wonder that LKY has gone to such extreme lengths to character-assassinate and damage him in any way he can - he can see the threat looming and he understands that Chee is his most formidable opponent, not Chiam or Low or Jeyaratnam.
There's a bitter-sweet irony here in that the Dr. Chee we see today, the PAP's implacable nemesis, was actually created and hardened by Lee's own overweening ego and vindictive nature. Had he been cunning enough not to directly persecute Chee to make him submit and crawl (as he tried to do with JBJ), his party would probably not be facing their biggest challenge yet. His misjudgement may yet prove to be his downfall. Perhaps when he looks at Dr. Chee he can see the makings of the true heir to his crown.

Its true, every action has an equal and opposite reaction, what goes around comes around, that which does not kill you makes you stronger. These are time tested maxims. Dr Chee is truly and ironically polished by his nemesis.
