Singapore Democrats

Mr Chiam See Tong has asked the Today newspaper to stop publication on his interview. Mr Chiam told Today's senior reporter, Mr Loh Chee Kong, that his remarks about the SDP were "off the cuff". Mr Chiam had told Mr Loh -- twice -- not to publish anything he said about Dr Chee Soon Juan and the Singapore Democrats.

Yet, the reporter emailed Dr Chee and quoted Mr Chiam's remarks, wanting a response from the SDP secretary-general. Dr Chee replied to Mr Loh and refused to respond, saying that the intended report is a PAP ploy to put SDP in a bad light. (See here)

Dr Chee subsequently wrote to Mr Chiam asking the Potong Pasir MP to address the situation with Today. Dr Chee wrote in his letter which was faxed to the Potong Pasir Town Council, "We bear no ill-will towards you and we wish only the best for you, your family and the Singapore Peoples' Party. We seek cooperation, not confrontation, with our fellow opposition parties."

But Dr Chee pointed out the SDP rejected Mr Chiam's characterisation of the party, saying that the comment was "inaccurate and uncalled for."

But he also called on the SPP leader to put aside the differences: "We accept that there were differences, perhaps even irreconcilable ones. But we see no merit in dredging them up again."

This latest incident is the clearest demonstration yet of the media's agenda against the Singapore Democrats. Taking the cue from the PAP, the newspapers target the SDP and either black out news about us or report them in the most negative manner possible.

Today's tactics in using comments made in confidence to bait the other party is as low-down as it gets. Now that the ploy has been exposed, what will the newspaper do?

Is there no line below which the media won't go? Then again, we are talking about the Peoples' Action Party.

Thanks to bastard LKY, morality of public servant including reporters in Singapore is at an all time low. When can we reclaim Singapore as a nation where we all belong, instead of just been slaves to the Lees..
  • exSINgaPOORean - Minister MENTOR
Can anyone remember about 8 years back when Dr. Mahartir who was then the Prime Minister of Malaysia, was so angry when LKY link out some "personal and confidential" letters the f.ormer wrote to LKY?

Now you see this is exactly what the Today did to Dr. Chiam.

Why they use this "dirty tectic"? Well it is bec. they ahve the follow their "MENTOR."

Now you see why LKY appointed himeself the unique title of Minister MENTOR instead of SSM...Supreme Senior Minister.

The way to counter this tick is not to trust the Singapore media to giv ethem any "off the cuff" comments and rely on them to keep them confidential or not to publish them.

Also counter check with you fellow Alternative Party members before you act on matters you deem are mutually counter productive or demanging.

The next move the PAP will do would be the Ministers, then the PM, then SM and finally the old fox MM start to praise the actions of the WP and SPP and condemn SDP and the REFORM parties...Tse Tou warfare again: "Slice your enermy into smaller slices and cut off their food and water supply."

Already the food and water supply has been cut off for the SDP...no money bec. DR. Chee, sister are bankrupt and John loses his job in the university.

And the opposition wards could not get money for the flat improvement.

But good news for the opposition: "Human is like the tea bag, you would not know it's worth till it has gone through hot water".

Unlike the PAP running dogs, most if not all the SDP active members will be baptised in jail, hot water and later fire. Thanks to the PAP and the Kangaroo court, instead of being discouraged, all of them are being encouraged and they finally find back the dignity of being HUMAN.

That reporter, even after Chiam had twice told him not to publish his "off the cuff" comments on the SDP, still contacted Chee with those comments, soliciting Chee's response, without telling him that Chiam had embargoed their publication?

Obviously, while not intending to quote Chiam (as Chiam had not permitted that), he was still hoping Chee would attack Chiam in response, and then he could publish that!

It seems, therefore, that Chee is right in suspecting "Today" for really wanting to stir up a quarrel within the opposition.

    A politician who hates politics
FOR someone who describes himself as a “simple and straightforward” man, Mr Chiam See Tong revealed that politics has “changed me a lot ... for the worse”.
    .
Said Mr Chiam: “Now, I can’t treat anyone I meet as a friend ... I step back and ask myself: ‘What are you up to?’”
    .
But isn’t that the price of joining politics?
    .
“I didn’t know before... now I’m learning,” he said.
    .
Anyone who follows Mr Chiam’s political career would understand his disdain for the darker side of politics.
    .
Fresh from leading the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) to three parliamentary seats in the 1991 General Election, Mr Chiam soon found himself ousted from the very party he had founded in 1980.
    .
The long-drawn saga — set in motion after Mr Chiam brought his one-time protege Dr Chee Soon Juan into the party — had obviously scarred him. Said his wife Lina: “He would have nightmares and wake up suddenly ... he doesn’t talk about it but it’s hurting him inside.” LOH CHEE KONG

Mr. Chiam, with all due respect to him, is a very old man with weakening health.
I can't help but smile at the thought of him being baited with the same question when he was 20 years younger.
Just look at LKY now. He had learned in recent months, no thanks to SDP not to shoot his mouth off because he finally realised that age has caught up with him and he is not as sharp as he used to be. Please, what do people think they are getting into when they wade into the jungle of politics? You think LKY will get to die with nearly all the buttons of control in his hands by being a pussy cat and a cry baby?

Dr Chee kick Chiam out from SDP, the party he found, it's a mistake by Dr Chee as we can never trust him 100%
  • democrat - SPP-Sudah pasti penat(Sure already tired)

  • vipersonic
democrat, why are you cursing the SPP and hailing the SDP? The opposition is working together against the PAP and yet you are trying to prevent this from happening. Are you perhaps from the PAP?
  • AnnA - It's High Time For Change!
Yeah, this is the time to unite with all the rest of PAP's opposition parties.

Time to oust PAP out of parliament.

Time to change all the wrong policies.

Time to reduce ministers' salary into normal wages (market rate).

Time to give the elderly, our nation builders and us in future, the long overdue respect for free health care and free transport (60 and above).

Time to reduce NS to 6 months of basic training, better allowances and free transportation (while doing NS) as they are the ones who are in training to defend our country.

Time for us to get back our CPF by 55 (with an OPTION to keep some in it for future usage in old age and earn higher interest from it - because some may like the idea of having the govt. to help control their monthly allowances).

Time to have a good change in the educational system where student will still be given a chance to prove themselves, not like now due to the streaming system - a marginalizing system).

Time to restore the HDB subsidies to citizen without having the 2 time buying policies (a good issue to fight for in election) - that's how the money keep rolling within the country - and help the younger generations who are stressed in marriage due to these stupid policies.

Time to reduce the GST to a permanent 2% (no need to abolish it if that's only way of revenue for the govt).

Time to re evaluate the ERP, COE, transportation fare and fuel pricing.

Time to stop all the influx of foreigners misusing their application to be PR or new citizens who intend to make Singapore as their stepping stone (while making money and get off).

Time to send back the hookers home (control of social visit pass) instead of allowing them to vicing near our homes. Literally near.

Time to give nurses jobs to Singaporean. IT or office work, we have loads of IT and educated Singaporean youth here who can't get jobs due to cheaper foreign skill workers' offer. So, help our youth first.

If we were made to study hard to represent ourselves as Singaporean, it is about time to accept the ones who really can communicate and not just their money on investment. We may of course still need those foreign labour for the maids and cleaner jobs - gardening and some simple jobs may still accept the elderly who wishes to continue working rather than idling.

Yes, it's HIGH TIME that all PAP's opposition political parties join hand in hand to restore the balances in our livelihood. Let's not add fuel to the sparks, we don't want any fire. Election is coming, we can smell it. The same tactic PAP is using but this time, it won't come as a surprise anymore for all those have been preparing ever since because the 'smokes' were visible enough.

So the only way to get all these done is to start from the CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS/ HUMAN RIGHTS for this will only enable us to speak without censorship and let other Singaporean be awake.
