Iran executes juvenile offender, rights group says

Iran has executed a man for a murder he committed as a minor, Human Rights Watch said on Tuesday. The New York-based group said an Afghan identified as Gholamreza H. was hanged on Oct. 30. He was 19 when the execution was carried out but had been convicted for a murder committed on Nov. 20, 2006, when he was 17.

Iranians hold anti-US protest

Thousands of Iranians have rallied outside the US embassy in Tehran to mark the 29th anniversary of the compound's seizure during the Islamic revolution in 1979. The demonstrators, mainly schoolchildren, chanted "Death to America!" outside the embassy on Monday, and set alight US and Israeli flags.

EU deplores sentencing of 12 civil society members in Syria

The EU has issued a Declaration with which it “deeply deplores the sentencing of 12 prominent members of civil society, in Damascus on 29 October 2008, to two and a half years' imprisonment for their endorsement of the Damascus Declaration for democratic national change.”

Palestine: Fourth solidarity boat heading to Gaza Strip

The Al Karama ship will leave Cyprus on Friday with plans to arrive in the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning. This will be the fourth boat to break the Israeli siege since August when two arrived simultaneously. The third was in port last week. Palestinian Legislative Council member and Director of the Committee against the Siege, Jamal Al Khudari, told PNN Tuesday that final preparations and legal arrangements are underway.

Egypt: MB protest against police brutality in Alexandria

The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) staged a protest in Alexandria Sunday, condemning the "violations committed against the Egyptian citizens by the police," Osama Gado, parliament member affiliated with the group, told Daily News Egypt. However, the protest, which was held in front of a court in Al-Manshia district in Alexandria, did not elicit any response from the government.
