Black-clad protesters attacked police and set a hotel and a customs station ablaze today near a bridge linking France and Germany that served hours earlier as the backdrop for a show of unity by NATO leaders. AP photographers saw other protesters storm a nearby Ibis hotel, setting fires and pilfering alcohol from its bar. An AP reporter saw intermittent scuffles between police and demonstrators in black as they gradually made their way back from the Europe Bridge and tried to enter the city center. Police surveillance at this week's G20 demonstrations was all-encompassing. Officers with long lenses and video cameras were perched on buildings and behind lines of riot police, and evidence they captured of criminal activity will - quite rightly - help find and prosecute the small number of troublemakers. Thousands of opposition supporters took part in a massive anti-government demonstration in the center of the Ukrainian capital of Kiev on Friday, demanding the resignation of President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. The massive demonstration, which was attended by over 20,000 opposition activists, was held in Kiev's in Independence Square and was led by Viktor Yanukovych, former PM and leader of the Regions Ukraine Party. On 24 February, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met with Tajikistan's Emomali Rahmon to rebuild relations that recently deteriorated to their worst level in a decade. Putting aside their disagreements over water and energy issues in Central Asia, the two leaders went fishing and hunting at Medvedev's residence in Zavidovo.
