Singapore Democrats

Awesome Words

If the legal channel of change in a democracy are open in theory but closed or unfairly obstructed in practice, then the system is not democratic in they way needed to make civil disobedience unnecessary.

Breaking news: IBA says it did not send letter that LKY testified it did PDF Print E-mail

Singapore Democrats

In the recent defamation suit hearing to assess damages, Mr Lee Kuan Yew testified in court that the President of the International Bar Association (IBA) had written to the Law Society of Singapore praising the judiciary here.

This letter was apparently written following the organisation's annual conference held in Singapore in September last year.

The following is what Mr Lee said in court:

"Your honour, the International Bar Association decided to honour Singapore and hold its annual conference in this city and you [Dr Chee] were given an opportunity to present your case, with your complaint that Singapore lack the rule of law. There were some 3000 lawyers there.

I think they left Singapore with a very different impression from what you have projected because we have a letter from the President of the International Bar Association to the organisers, namely the Law Society of Singapore, how successful the meeting was and how impressed they were by the standards they found to obtain in the judiciary - " (see here also)

But the IBA has confirmed to the SDP that there was no such letter. According to the IBA its president did not write such a letter. The Law Society of Singapore has also denied that it has received any such letter from the IBA.

An IBA official said: "If there is another source of this letter, we do not know about it."

Mr Lee gave this evidence in the witness box during cross-examination by Dr Chee Soon Juan on 27 May 08.

The SDP will seek legal advice on this latest development.

In a related matter, Mr Lee's press secretary wrote to the Wall Street Journal stating that Dr Chee had called Singapore leaders "murderers, robbers, child molesters" and "rapists" in open court.

Dr Chee clearly said no such thing and has written to the newspaper challenging the Minister Mentor to produce the records showing that he (Dr Chee) did. (See here).

He was testifying under oath. Therefore, this surely amounts to perjury.
Please notify the presiding judge Blenda Ang to pass down the punishment as soon as possible. :-)

AnnA  -  Go For It    Thu, 03 Jul 2008 9:11 am
I suggest you go for it, sir. The evidence is already there. No need to wait. Play no nonsense with them. Show them that they are not as cunning as they thought! Tell them that MANY Singaporean (60's generation onwards) are educated but no thanks to their education system which are depriving Singaporean children from having more choices to lead their own life. The time has come for RETRIBUTION!!

Let's Stand Up For Singapore!

I'd say, GO FOR IT Mr Chee!!!

Maybe he did
- not from the International BAR Association but from the International BADMINTON Association (IBA) praising the judiciary for its stance on foreign imports, not finding them guilty of freeloading and of lacking in morality
after these very talented FTs abused Singapore's resources to go travel the world to play in tournaments big and small
(which explains their impossibly high world rankings, having played more than exponents from resource-poor countries the likes of DPRK could ever do, for instance),
win prize monies which they pocket, masuk dalam themselves (while still drawing shamelessly high allowances vis-a-vis top-ranking PRC and world counterparts)
before they would finally give up Singapore citizenships to comfortably retire in the old country from where they came with the 'loot' from their years in Singapore.

Or was it the International BOXING Association (IBA)? The International BAR Association (for Intoxicated), International Bartendars/Barmaids Association (IBA)…? Oh, International BRAGGARTS Association, perhaps???

"Oh dear, my mind is really failing me... Choo, where are you? Come get me, come save me, quick, I'm on the verge of breakdown, Choo, why did you leave me behind... I wet my PJs, Singaporeans are all baying for my blood... H-E-L-P!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

After I have posted this, I will be sending the link to this website to everyone in my email address book. I hope all readers will do the same. If we do not get the news out ourselves, the PAP-controlled media will just put a different spin on it, that is if they will publish it at all.

This is getting more and more interesting every day. I cannot wait to see what else will come out of the woodwork.

Someone said elsewhere on this website that we should go easy on the MM since he is elderly. Ordinary elderly folk are wise in their hoary age and stay out of things they no longer feel competent of handling. This old man is so conceited that he thinks he has the mental capability to go on and on until he drops. It is a pity that he did not retire completely from politics when he was at the top. Now we cringe at his senior moments. They are an embarassment to Singapore. A wise man knows when to call time. What a shame this geriatric does not.
mike Chan  -  Where's the said letter of praise from IBA?    Thu, 03 Jul 2008 1:47 pm
The very fact that LKY nor his counsel produced a copy of that letter from IBA there and then in Court to back up LKY's declaration should have raised suspicions. In fact it was Judge B Ang's duty to askenxRm to see it expeditiously to confirm there was such a letter (and shove it to Dr Chee's face.) before moving on.
Truth  -  Liar Liar, now who is the Liar    Thu, 03 Jul 2008 2:37 pm
Wow, this really look bad for the old man. He likes to call everyone else Liars, but now it is clear who the Liar is. However, the judge would probably not do anything about it.
they are in Power!  -  want the big fat pay    Thu, 03 Jul 2008 4:28 pm
Emperor Lees and their inuendoes, their false accusations will never ever end!

Face the fact that they are in Power!

They want the big fat pay and they want their positions and will do anything to defend it!

The entire they are in Power!
for them even against their conscience if they ever have one!
STINKAPOREANS DESERVE IT  -  THE RULING PARTY IS PAP JUNTA    Thu, 03 Jul 2008 4:31 pm
Even if they can produced a copy of that letter from IBA and accuse Dr Chee a Liar and arrest him and sue which is their ultimate aim-so what?

REMEMBER - THE RULING PARTY IS PAP JUNTA

NOT CHEE OR YOU OR ME!

STINKAPOREANS ASK FOR THIS FOR VOTING THEM IN!!
Lapdog media  -  It was a mistake lah.    Thu, 03 Jul 2008 4:39 pm
"It was an honest mistake. What to do, it's happened. I am sorry that it did. It was a lapse."

I can almost hear it. SDP should quickly get the IBA to put their denial down in writing. Or else, when pressured by the Leegime through threats of lawsuit, even the IBA will change their tune.

Just as some of the Int'l media agencies.

Play it smart, SDP. Get it down in black and white first.
Mike  -  Picking up small things for nothing    Thu, 03 Jul 2008 5:14 pm
Enough is enough..

What is said in court is to the best knowledge of the plaintiff..

No use for CSJ to nickpick small things.

It doesn't matter.

What matters is the amount to be paid for damages.

If you did not defame in the first place, then nothing will happen to you and your pockets need not be emptied.
no one is indespensable lah!  -  Give them back their dose of medicine    Thu, 03 Jul 2008 5:22 pm
It is ok to say that LKY is no longer relevant as he has lead us from a reasonable society to the present money and cost driven country.

We should retrench him and many of the others to cut cost!

After the demise of ah meng at the singapore zoological gardens, there was a search for another animal - so no one is indespensable lah!

Give them back their dose of medicine see if they can take it!
KARMIC LAWS  -  NO ESCAPE    Thu, 03 Jul 2008 5:23 pm
I believe in Karma and it's getting back to them both. Like NKF Durai has his karma come upon himself soon for cheating poor peopl's money!
