This is a sad day for democracy in this country. We feel so sorry that you are being placed in this tribulation. Words can no longer bring comfort to the pain in your hearts for the burden is too much to bear. :(

But raise your chin up, defenders of the democratic faith! We are forever with you in mind and soul. We will pray for your safety and away from the tyrannical forces that taint these lands. May this test bring more courage and fortitude in your hearts.

Take heed- you are never alone. We are with you. Take pride in your every stride for the cause of freedom and democracy.

In this episode, there are no winners. The only winner is the Law of Singapore in that it has to be respected and no one is above the law.

You will have time to think through the whole thing, is it worth it? Be kind and remember that no one is perfect in this world.

Your children are lovely children, why put them through such stress? As an opposition by all means pick on the Government's inefficiency etc but as a gentlemen avoid slander, jealousy, personal vendatta and contempt of court.

The world tomorrow for Singapore is fraud with ptifalls. We can only triumph if we are together. The oppositions are important but they must be CONSTRUCTIVE.

It will be worth the while if you spent some time unlearning what you have learn.

Chee Soon Juan and Chee Siok Chin are 2 brave people of integrity and they dare to walk their talk and face the music.

This is in direct contrast with Lee Kuan Yew who conveniently ran away to Moscow after ordering the SPF and his kangaroo Judge to arrest and detain Gopalan Nair. So much for a man who was so full of "integrity".

You people have forgotten the first rule of politics: the people come first. You keep claiming that what you are doing is good for Singapore, but nothing has come out of it. So far, all I hear is you complaining about the current situation, and yet I do not hear you coming up with any better solution. Instead of trying to work on deriving a better solution, you end up going overseas and to all your international conventions on "democracy", wasting the very money that you can use to save the people that you pledge to save. As far as I am concerned, you bunch are a hypocritical lot.

The very reason that you do not go well with the Singaporeans is not because the PAP has covered their eyes with lies. Instead, it is YOU who have failed to convince the people that you should be trusted. How can I possibly trust a party who hurls insults and half-truths with no backing up? You are contented with bringing publicity for yourself, but other than that, you are doing nothing else for the people. You keep breaking the laws, and then claim that the government is biased against you. It is akin to shooting yourself in the foot and blaming the gun manufacturer for building the gun.

There is a reason why even the other opposition leaders are not backing you up. Being an opposition does not mean direct conflicting and contradicting the government's policies, but rather to provide alternative viewpoints that can fine-tune the ideas.

If I were you, I would stop breaking the law and having to pay all those damages, and use that money to donate to the poor. You would do more good that way.

Dr. Chee, you are a brave man. We certainly would want you to be our next leader in Singapore. When that day finally comes, we Singaporean will have a chance to finally stand up and be proud to be Singaporean.

To all of you who post comments to this with a know-it-all attitude, rethink yourselves! You simply lack the foresight that the people in SDP have. Perhaps one day you will realize.

To SDP, never be disheartened by such people and their words!

It confounds me that some people are angry with the Chees.

It's THEM who are going to jail, NOT you.

It's THEIR children and family who will have to bear the burden of their acts, NOT yours.

Your lives will NOT change one iota everytime the Chees lose their political battles.

If you are angry with the Chees, then join or start your own opposition group.

If you feel sorry for the Chees and their families, put your money where your mouth is.

It's probably why the Chees just opt to go to jail directly this time. Why pay more?

On the other hand, LKY & son are using taxpayers' money to sue oppositions that pose no threat to the country or Singaporeans whatsoever. What's the point of doing so except for the purpose of guarding their own pride? The money can certainly be put to more meaningful use like helping poor citizens.

And when the anonymous person says that being an opposition means "to provide alternative viewpoints that can fine-tune the ideas", I urge him to please wake up to what's happenning. How many of the hundreds of alternative viewpoints given by the oppositions in parliament and the general public have been implemented? You are clearly living in a world of ignorance bliss, unaware that bloodsuckers are slowly draining the the life out of you, yet you think that your life is really wonderful when in fact you have mistaken the dizziness in your head caused by loss of blood to be a sense of feeling high, thinking that there are needles injecting you with morphine when actually there are insects bleeding you to death.

Many mainstream people do not understand but do not be disheartened (I am confident that Dr Chee knew he will "lost" this battle and many battles to come but wins the war eventually...)

Put it this way a few years back when I was at the Istana for the May Day Event... I only saw Dr Chee but now I witness a small expanding group of Singaporeans with no links to SDP seeing eye to eye on one thing: that is to bring human rights and freedom of expression to Singapore and this movement will be like an exponential curve as more Singaporeans get educated and enlightened about their "stolen rights"

Here was a verse that I emailed to a journalist friend two years back about why my support for Dr Chee and his "antics"

I'm so sorry to see two wonderful human beings got locked up by a control freak. I hope they(PAP) should make a special visit to see the infamous Bidadari cemetary and what this place means to us. It is very predictable and cliche - like hungry strikes, going to jail etc. Intelligent and educated people can see the political juvenile games they are playing and do not take them seriously. Matured electorate never consider them. They appeal only to the young and restless with their message of defiance for the sake of defiance. If they have any sense and responsibility, show the world they can compete on the constitutional front, not by acting like hooligans asking about old issues of yester year time and again.

Honestly what goods does it do to dig old wounds and embarass and insult our leaders? Frankly if you believe that democracy means speaking freely and protesting freely all the time by insulting leaders of the countries and breaking the law, then you bring all the bad things on yourself for being unitelligent and unsophisticated in your methods. It does no good to Singapore, yourself and your family, stop kidding yourself.

CAn you suggest some clever ideas to improve our lives ?

Dont focus on cliche and sensational issues like ministerial pay, detection of activists in the 60s or 70s etc again and again. Try something different in this day and age, or you will remain forever a loser.

So I suppose someone who lambasts his opponents and hurls insults like "Political Juvenile" at them in open court isn't acting like a hooligan.

I presumed that you must be intelligent and educated. May I ask, what method would you use and what fabulous ideas do you have?

At least, Dr Chee is brave and sincere enough to stand up to unfair tactics from oppressing party.
He dares to stand up to his believes and principles.
