Singapore Democrats

Dr Chee Soon Juan and Ms Chee Siok Chin have decided not to delay their prison sentences and begin their imprisonment starting tomorrow.

The two SDP leaders have been convicted of contempt of court by Judge Belinda Ang and sentenced to 12 and 10 days imprisonment respectively. Their convictions arose out of the cross-examination of Mr Lee Kuan Yew and Mr Lee Hsien Loong in the assessment of damages hearing held at the Supreme Court last week.

Dr Chee and Ms Chee are unable to file their Notices of Appeal by the deadline because they cannot pay the $2,000 required to file their appeals. Judge Ang had given them until the close of business day of 4 Jun 08 to do so failing which they would go to jail the following day.

The defendants had, instead, written to the court and said that they would report tomorrow at 12 noon for their sentences.

This is a sad day for democracy in this country. We feel so sorry that you are being placed in this tribulation. Words can no longer bring comfort to the pain in your hearts for the burden is too much to bear. :(

But raise your chin up, defenders of the democratic faith! We are forever with you in mind and soul. We will pray for your safety and away from the tyrannical forces that taint these lands. May this test bring more courage and fortitude in your hearts.

In this episode, there are no winners. The only winner is the Law of Singapore in that it has to be respected and no one is above the law.

You will have time to think through the whole thing, is it worth it? Be kind and remember that no one is perfect in this world.

Your children are lovely children, why put them through such stress? As an opposition by all means pick on the Government's inefficiency etc but as a gentlemen avoid slander, jealousy, personal vendatta and contempt of court.

The world tomorrow for Singapore is fraud with ptifalls. We can only triumph if we are together. The oppositions are important but they must be CONSTRUCTIVE.

It will be worth the while if you spent some time unlearning what you have learn.

Chee Soon Juan and Chee Siok Chin are 2 brave people of integrity and they dare to walk their talk and face the music.

This is in direct contrast with Lee Kuan Yew who conveniently ran away to Moscow after ordering the SPF and his kangaroo Judge to arrest and detain Gopalan Nair. So much for a man who was so full of "integrity".

I Will be bookin in back to BMTC2 Camp in Tekong tomorrow.I will as always be spreading e message of Democracy whenever I go.I have manage to find a handful of Comrade to join SDP.We will be contactin SDP asap after we Pass Out next mon.I always told those in camp that 'We may be losing e battle BUT we have NOT lost.So Regroup n Launch a new 'offensive' n WIN'.

Are you going to write it off so early? Dr Chee, I thought you were going to have Jeyaratnam to defend you? A true fighter would ask for the write off of the appeal. At least put up a last fight.

With time on your side, esp with the pending Nair's case, you still stand a chance.Please don't show that you are ever willing to go to jail. This is just not in our interest as it once again reinforces the perception that Singaporeans are not interested in their basic rights.

Activitism is not always about hunger strikes or going to jail.

Now is the time Dr Chee. Please......please dont dissapoint us, I beg you. :dry:

We pity Dr Chee & Ms Chee for their sacrifices, while they are in prison,LKY and SM Goh will enjoy in Russia.Dr Chee and Ms Chee will eat nasi lemak with rotten fish while Lee & Goh eat abalone and shark fin and Russian Gourmet.Anyway we salute Dr Chee,for your courage to confront LKY % Son Pte Ltd.

It confounds me that some people are angry with the Chees.

It's THEM who are going to jail, NOT you.

It's THEIR children and family who will have to bear the burden of their acts, NOT yours.

Your lives will NOT change one iota everytime the Chees lose their political battles.

If you are angry with the Chees, then join or start your own opposition group.

If you feel sorry for the Chees and their families, put your money where your mouth is.

Otherwise, just go about your lives as usual. We are too fearful to involve ourselves in politics anyway so let's not bitch about those who have more guts than us.

At the end of it all, just remember this - The Chees have never cause any hurt or harm to the Singaporean. At their worse, they at least provided political entertainment.

Can't say the same for the Lees and the PAP minions.

im so angry and sad that the sdp leaders went to jail.... i want democracy now... i wont say the national pledge if the LEE's are still running the country or even in the country... singapore must hear what the people has to say.... where is democracy??? the singapore pledge has democracy in it.... but still where is democracy??? i hate the PAP they say but dont do as soon as possible but when they want sumthing they do it as fast as they want.... like MONEY. im sure that is what they are like... the law sucks.... bigtime and The lee's can kiss my dirty shitty soccer bots full of shit i love sdp and the pap cannot stop me.... someday i will speakup to singapore to support sdp.....
