Thanks for the bravery act which they have done.

Well, it's not about waking up. It's one(they are brainwashed , maybe simply for power and pride) or two, *I couldn't care less about this issue.*

I have submitted 5 human rights report to human rights convention and hoping to receive a reply. If they don't reply, I will keep sending to them

Its truly amazing that Singapore Government can still claim its a Vibrant Democracy !At best its a guided
Democracy with tight control of media and sure firing off the Opposition by means fair and foul ! How any Democracy can survive where Opposition Members are denied the Mother's Milk of Politics for campaigns namely the money in the Bank is absolutely amazing isn't it ? I can't think of any Modern Democracy in the Civilised Nations that can really truly exist without a Free Press and Freedom from Interference with Private Meetings that aren't even seditious or treasonable !!!! And what about the Freedom of Thoughts when Opposition ideas are drowned out by Government Control Media and Opponents bankrupted in the Courts for libel and slander ! I am reminded of Herr Hitler packing up the Jews for his Final Solution of Gasing them to death! Here its a case of silencing your poonents to death !

In the spirit of 'Winner Takes All', 'May the Best Man Win', "The Best Job (Pay) Goes To The Best Man' (not of the wedding type lah, eh goondu), 'We Must Never Fear The Foreign Talents', 'It's To Do With Globalization; There's Nothing We can Do About It', et cetera et al, might Singaporeans also consider not outsourcing their Cabinet and Government Leaders?

I mean, there are already so many functions with which you contract out (to the 'best' suppliers at the 'best prices), what's there to stop you guys from sourcing from the larger outside world
- and a more capable and able and more international - GLOBAL, my boy - and hopefully more humane non-Singaporean human race -
the best candidates to run your country.

What's stopping you?

One has got to stop talking the talk and start walking the walk: get the best to fill the job at hand!

That very exceptional family cannot be all there is in this world to lead your country to even more 'remarkable achievements', can't they? Too long in the seat to realize the folly upon folly they continue to formulate, quietly and in an unseen manner as yet bringing disaster after disaster to your people - this house of cards will very soon manifest itself, by which time it'll be too late.

Get Clinton. Get Blair.

(Get anyone - for anyone would do those 'very demanding' jobs just as well, if not better.

Even Anwar would do better.)

And neither would clamor for the kind of shamelessly obscene amounts your vey capable leaders are now getting, be assured.

Go ahead. Change.

There's no better time than now - when your system of administration is breaking down, as evidenced by the simpletons' breakouts from detention
(suggesting the men in uniform have become very so disillusioned, as with the general populace with the pittance and raw deal they are getting, explaining why nothing works anymore in your country),
the non-functioning of many public facilities (and their departments' nonchalance about them, eg. cave-ins on simple road projects, traffic pay system not tested fully before being put out to collect your money, etc, etc),
the surfacing of 'black' guns a la The Great Showdown between One-Eyed dragon & Milky Pig Showdown, The Bukit Timah NTUC Fairprice Singapore Pools Outlet Aunty Robbery, plus God-knows how many more such better-equipped-than-S&W revolver-wielding-Force criminals out there,
ever rising costs of living in everything (and we haven't yet seen Abdullah & Gang demanding higher prices for their water, for that'll spell certain doom for you)
- frankly the profiteering voraciously-greedy merchant aren't to be blamed for trying to fix the poor working-man Singaporean by incresing prices every time just one of his many costs rises;
it's monkey see, monkey do, and he does see what those monkeys at the top of The Big Tree are doing.

The Singapore Story - sad and getting sad-der.

Sometimes, you folks do wish you lived in a kampung like those Malaysian cousins of yours you used to kmake fun of, don't you?

Even Burma would be better. At least it has a Nobel Peace Prize winner in Aung San Suu Kyi to whom the West can hold up as a shining example of democracy so that if ever the Burmese people decide one day to topple Than Swie
- erm, btw, how many prime propeties has he and family bought so far in your country, do you know? -
and Company private limite, you can be sure US warships will be there on the ready.

Not though your puny little Red Dot - no one will shed a tear for you guys when your little rock out of the water sinks back in.

Sorry but that's the sad fact. Because you've allowed yourself to be denigrated for forty years +++ - plus GST, plus government cess, plus tariffs and tax, plus excise, plus greedy merchant's mark-up, plus pay-and-pay scheme, plus plus plus, please don't mind suffering another forty - the story continues, after the young lieutenant graduates, comes back, joins the party fold, wins a GRC, wait for another caretaker to warm seat for him, then takes over as Leader Supremo.

Story sounds familiar? Of course it does. It's called The Singapore Script, it's been executed before!

And it will be executed again - you guys, whether at the bottom or at the top of the pecking order, just don't have things other humans possess: creativity and imagination.

So, just bear with it, won't you be good, Mr Ong, Mr Beng and Mr Seng and Miss Florence Hwey Ah Lian.

How the authorities received word about the function is anyone's guess but admission was restricted to those who had purchased a ticket.

How? Simple. You have a turncoat amongst your invited guests, that's how.

And that's how THEY come to find out EVERYTHING that they know - having INSIDERS, paid or unpaid.

That's why you have to be careful.

Even amongst your midst of Democrats.

Come on lah, Thinktok, don't belittle us like that. Of course we can do all those things you mention if we want to. Aren't we a 1st world country just like the USA?

Our President and govt can do anything they like. Don't we control all the levers of power - the media, the judiciary, the civil service? Don't we have an inviolate Constitution? Don't we have a Supreme Court to guarantee that citizens' rights cannot be trampled upon? We're exactly like them.

Don't worry man, you can sleep well tonight and not bother your little head about the chichak kering SDP. They got NO chance.

SDP shooting own feet

It is obvious that the SDP had shot its own feet. Firstly, we have youtube videos showing the poor lady from MDA pleading with the organisers and explaining the relevant aspect of the law infringed. Then there is a long and incoherent explanation from the organisers to draw a parallel between a wedding and a poltical gathering.
Now we see words like "barging, retreat" etc to put the authorities in a bad light.

The two US officials in the gathering. Of course their brand of democracy and freedom of speech is different from ours. Maybe one day we may reach their level of tolerance and practice, but until then, we must remember we are not America. Their President can lie under oath and still remain in the job, Can we? Their President can lie about WMD and attack Iraq, can we?
So please Singaporeans, sober up and don't take SDP too seriously.
Their activities and anitics is a testimony that Singapore is quite free afterall.

Perpetuating Climate of Fear

A well wishing friend who was working for the hotel pulled me aside at the hall and cautiously advised me to leave the screen as ISD people were around. I laughingly told him not to worry as the ISD know about me. He smiled sheepishly and I thank him for his concern. Why is it that we have to fear these enforcers? Are we doing something that is so terrible that is harmful to Singapore? Is the freedom of speech something to fear or to embrace? It is unfortunate that many Singaporeans are still perpetuating this climate of fear. The older generation are invaribly helping the government to instill this fear of speaking out into the younger generation.

Dear SDP

The mind boggles - what is happening to Singapore? What a ridiculous draconian law in the first place. Singapore will become a laughing stock around the democratic world with this type of behaviour, which is sad because Singaporeans are intelligent, very hard working and responsible citizens. Why does your Government behave in such autocratic ways? It is not healthy.
Admittedly they are not like the venal thugs that rule Burma who have turned a terrible natural disaster into a manmade catastrophe by their paranoia and refusal to to allow help to reach their stricken population. They will be condemned to hell for it. But once again I am really disillusioned at the undemocratic behaviour of those who control Singapore.

We would like to receive a copy of the DVD to spread through our international human rights contacts.

Have you notified Human Rights Watch Asia?
Regards

The Internet is a godsend. It's rolling back the curtain of secrecy that has long hidden the unsavoury antics of the Govt from public scrutiny. 10 years ago this MDA raid, and far worse, would have passed by unnoticed. Today, anyone who chooses to can enjoy that dreaded movie, watch the sophistry of the senior deputy director of the MDA and his henchmen, and comment on their egregious behaviour at the click of a mouse. Greed, vanity, slander, lying, envy, pining — and hope, revealed.

It's like turning over long-buried rocks and seeing creepy-crawlies scurrying around in confusion, dazedly blinking at the sudden unexpected blaze of light. Which is good. Garmen is now caught in a state of uncertainty requiring a choice between equally unfavourable options: to crush this wayward new child or engage it?

No country claiming to be a cutting-edge IT Hub can afford to be seen closing down and blocking websites that carry inconvenient points of view. Creating the Great Red Dot Firewall would destroy credibility and will surely attract the sort of scorn and state of disgrace suffered by the great firewall of China.

How about requiring licences to publish, a method so effective with old media? Well, good luck trying to get You-Tube and its even less accommodating clones to comply since they're in the business of getting eyeballs on screens just as much as live events want bums on seats. These sites have become the Hong Lim Park Speakers Corners of the new world without the bad weather.

Maybe go the ISA route - tried, tested, proven? Nah, too 50s, too Soviet, not cool, more trouble than it's worth.

Chickensh*t, horribly emabarrassing defamation lawsuits mocked and laughed at from void deck to hawker centre to country club? Um, maybe not quite as hot an idea as it used to be.

Petty rules and regulations designed to harass and intimidate but instead creating an uproar of disgust when exposed to public discussion in blog after blog? Can of worms - avoid if possible.

That leaves oh, an open free and fair exchange of views? But that would be most unnatural after having ruled by decree for so long.

For how do you convince a sullen resentful citizenry of the merits of being replaced by alien peoples perceived to be taking their jobs, their university places, their place in their own society? How do you explain alien cultures in every nook and cranny, at every turn? How do you reasonably argue and justify the increase in costs, riches for the powerful, crumbs for the powerless? In other words, how do you defend the indefensible?

Hmm. Awkward dilemma to be caught in. Continue with the tired formula of caring disdain or think the unthinkable: listen and reform?

The Internet. The new Enlightenment. It's a curse. For some.

Every toppling of an regime that does not allow itself to step down through democratic means always start with a very small group of people who trusted that justice will prevail, not power.

Compared to other dictators, LKY is surprising benign; he just bankrupt his enemies, not kill them. And he will probably never kill, because that will have breached the threshold tolerance levels of US and Europe.

So while it may look extremely daunting, just remember many countries have had worse dictators who have fallen.

If the agenda of the SDP is to be the voice of the people, I can only hope they continue to do their utmost. Then again, I wonder if the utmost is even enough in this climate...? Considering even our late president Ong Teng Cheong has his hands tied..

At last, TOC reports on film screening

http://forums.delphiforums.com/sammyboymod/messages?msg=177562.1

AT LONG LAST, the SPF-ISD Online Citizen has report on the film screening of "One Nation Under Lee" held at excelsior hotel on saturday.

They must be afraid if they dun report again, they will again be accuse of bias, lop side, partisanship! LOL!

However, i strongly suspect the SPF-ISD Online Citizen has also been up to its sneaky and underhand ways. They sent a reporter down to film the event, and later a spy using moniker YAMOBE revealed information on the event that COULD NOT HAVE BEEN OBTAIN FROM BLOGS.

YAMOBE, a confirmed spy, revealed that there was 1 host 1 co-host. None of the blogs, including SDP web, have mentioned this. SDP web only mention Mr Chia Ti Lik was host. No blog or forum have mention a co-host (which spy YAMOBE reveal to be Jaslyn).

Clearly, one of the film viewer must have leaked the info, and YAMOBE posted it.

But who leaked it?

It does not take long to deduce the SPF-ISD Online Citizen are the prime suspect!

I love the internet. It can feed you with tons & tons of Mind Food and just leart about Institutional Stupidity. Our rigid & over regulated institutions are a great recipe for Institutional Stupidity. Unfortunately, Institutional Stupidity happens everywhere in the world. I don't know whether Robert Ho coined this: “There are no stupid people but institutional stupidity is everywhere.”. Brilliant!

People watching film in private, all of sudden government people come in and disrupt.

What sort of society is this?

What sort of regime is this?

They should be ashamed of themselves.

They have no respect for people's rights at all.

PAP Pui!

Lee Kuan Yew Pui!

Elite people Pui!

Win too many easy elections already lah.

Get cocky.

Want to bully citizens.

Brainwash people with pro-PAP propaganda in mainstream media, of course they blindly vote for you lah.

They are not politicised.

Sing praises of Lee Kuan Yew, you happy.

Film criticise Lee Kuan Yew, you not happy.

F**K OFF lah.

Try this type of shit to the politicised Taiwanese and they slap you across the face.

You lucky, Singaporeans not politicised, you can act big.

Your time will come PAP.

People won't stomach your bullshit forever.

It is only a matter of time.

This article is an apt enough evidence to prove just how stupid the Films Act can be. Despotic faggots.

If I want to watch Borat or even Sex is Zero 2 then what would they want to care so much by banning the DVD sales in order to so-called "keep away the hands of minors"?

As such, Singapore should be the number 1 "Privacy-violator" country.

Shocking! Was that the first time government officials gate-crashed a private function? Are honest law-abiding citizens no longer safe from the whims (and insecurities) of the PAP??

That said, the MDA may have done the SDP (and the activists) a favour. The article mentioned about 80 guests present at the screening. Now, thanks to the MDA's overkill move, there must be thousands of Singaporeans out there wanting to watch the documentary! I did ask SDP to set aside some copies of the DVD for me, but now I think I have to 'up-size' my order!

Some of my friends who previously showed no interest at all in some 'boring documentary' are now eagerly waiting for the release of this 'banned' film. Thanks MDA for the promotion. None of us could have done it better. :D

I did not enjoy the film fully because thanks to the disturbances outside the door, my concentration was greatly affected.

I realized that MDA presence made the film edgier and had a realistic bite because the authorities were there to lend a real-time supporting role which they practically took and won hands down.

People could witness the drama unfold firsthand. The US embassy officials witnessed the incident firsthand. The bewildered look on their faces were priceless and that goes a long way.

Though we must credit Seelan Palay for his work, the film was made better thanks to the antics from the show-stealers. :D

Shameless MDA!

Aha, now we know how the MDA nutures the local talents!
By being partisan,it has positioned itself to destroy filmmakers like Martyn See and others who are critics of the system while promoting and funding pro-PAP filmmakers (like Jack Neo and Kelvin Tong)to serve as propagandastic tool.
How shameless and low could you public servants stoop to serve the people?
Remember, you public servants' pay don't come from PAP! Every cent is from the citizens ,your true PAYMASTER!!
In fact as a filmmaker myself, I have already been victimised just like Martyn See and friends under PAP's "Cultural Revolution" long ago.
I am heartened to see more filmmakers and appreciative audience supporting such a screening and not be cowed by the authorities or lured by MDA's "funding".
Someday when PAP collapses, we filmmakers will be remembered as the "Micheal Moores" of this era.
And of course, the MDA will be best remembered as Morons Deceiving Authority!

Nowadays, we have many people including the police who had abused their authority, doing things which they did not have the rights to do in the 1st place, as in this e.g, the MDA officers trying to seize the LCD projector screen. It's ridiculous!

Also, I kept track with SDA news and there are many occasions where the police had exaggerated overly, for e.g accusing Ms Chee of biting them, which is plain bull crap ... I certainly don't believe Ms Chee will be doing such things ... these small flies of the police force wanna act big, but in fact they bring down the respect most used to have for police. They just spell the unprofessionalism nowadays in their task force by making all kinds of untrue stories when they did not receive the cooperation they want with their target.

But why should a person give in under this form of intimidation ? If someone believes what they are doing is right, they should stand by it. Those police giving Ms Chee a hard time only try to act big, but infact don't know their work ethics well.

I admire SDP and all opposition speaking & upholding the truth spirit.

:cheer: May the providence hands guide you guys from glory to glory. :)

Well done MDA! Thank you for taking part in our little charade to show the world exactly the sort of stupid laws we have in Singapore.

Your timely arrival and idiotic demands had work well to our causes. Not only are we laughing now, but the whole world is laughing together too.

A special mention goes out to Mr. Tan Chiu Kee. The US embassy officials are particularly impressed by your performance so we had agreed that a little reward should be in order. Don't worry, we are keeping you in suspense for now but it will be among the 1st things on our to-do list as soon as PAP falls from power.

Till then, we hope for your continual support by joining us again soon in the very near future.

Thank you.

Hyah, hyah, hyah, this is simply priceless. Charging into a private event like B-movie thugs and seizing, wait for it....ONE bloody DVD......like it's Paris Hilton polical porn, for Heaven's sake! Police straining at the leash and eagerly waiting to crush the rioting mob too! Was there an air raid siren as well?

What a bunch of goondu pinheads. Now, instead of a tiny handful of people knowing of it, the whole damn country's wetting themselves with excitement and gagging to see it. The organisers must be thrilled to bits. They really couldn't have bought this level of publicity - this movie is going to shoot right to the top of the 'die die must see' hit parade.

Hope someone there had the presence of mind to video the whole Keystone Cops affair so the rest of us can enjoy a good laugh too. I can hardly wait to see the bit where the trio came back to demand the projector as well and had to leave sheepishly with tail tucked firmly between legs.

The MDA ought to be vigorously encouraged to do more great PR disasters like this. Each and every time, they'll look like drooling village idiots. And it'll be yet another nail in the coffin of the Thought Police.

Three cheers for the MDA! Let's have a book-burning festival next!
